In this article, we investigate how the Hollywood dystopian cinema, far from being merely critical, functions as a device for reproducing the capitalist liberal-security imaginary. We argue that such narratives shape the future as inherently catastrophic, justifying the maintenance of order and the containment of alternatives. The analysis of the film Children of Men (2006) illustrates how the genre naturalizes collapse and authoritarianism, limiting the political imagination. Finally, we conclude that the dystopian film industry actively participates in the capture of the imagination, reinforcing “capitalist realism” and the perception that there are no viable alternatives to the status quo, even in crisis scenarios.
