Abstract

This article analyzes Egypt's entry into the BRICS as of 2024, highlighting the importance of this move in terms of the country's recent foreign policy trajectory and the main consequences of this process for the multilateral initiative. In the convergence between foreign policy analysis and world systems analysis, it is argued that Egypt's participation consolidates its quest to diversify its foreign relations. In addition to strengthening the government's discourse of resuming Egyptian foreign action after Al-Sisi's political and institutional consolidation, economic expectations also guide such diplomatic action, such as the possibility of attracting new investments, reducing dependence on the dollar, and increasing trade relations. On the BRICS side, in addition to the demonstration of geopolitical and diplomatic skills, the weight of the Egyptian consumer market and its strategic intercontinental position reinforce the multiple dimensions surrounding the recent expansion process.
