Luladrão and Bolsonazi: a study of neologism in Brazilian Portuguese as an evaluative resource in social media

The purpose of this paper is to analyze neological creations in Brazilian Portuguese as an evaluative resource in social media. For this, comments were analyzed on posts on the news verification page, Lupa agency, on Facebook, close to the second round of presidential elections in Brazil, in 2018. Due to the predominance of hate discourse, it was decided to analyze the neologisms that expressed a negative appraisal of these candidates and their supporters, from the perspective of the semantic fields of Appraisal Discourse (MARTIN and WHITE, 2005), in search of possible linguistic patterns. For a better understanding of how neologisms happened, the process of word formation in the grammar of the Portuguese language was used (CUNHA and CINTRA, 2016). As a result, there is a preference for the composition process by agglutination and in the majority of cases analyzed the neologism added a different appraisal of the clause complex.
