TIME AND HISTORY IN THE FICTION WORK AND IN THE MEMÓRIAS BY DYONÉLIO MACHADO
Keywords:
Time, Literature and history, Story of memories.Abstract
This paper discusses the concept of time in two works of Dyonélio Machado: O louco do Cati, a novel released in 1942, and Memórias de um pobre homem, autobiographical story writing in the 1970s and published posthumously in 1990. Proceeds to the analysis of the merger between past and present, identified in the plot of the novel, and to the study of the author’s perceptions about the coexistence of different times during the same period, recorded in his Memórias. It appears that the special treatment given to time in the two Dyonélio Machado texts leads the writer to reflect on history and social evolution, which leads him to reexamine his political convictions.
