Abstract: Faced with the influences that the contemporary lifestyle is capable of imprinting on the formation of subjectivities, it is questioned how children's ways of suffering can be reflections of the various pillars that sustain today's society. Thus, this article aims to describe the conceptions of psychology students from a public university in the interior of Piauí about contemporary child suffering. For this, open interviews were carried out, which underwent content analysis, with five students in the final stage of graduation. Four categories emerged that showed that the undergraduates' conceptions consider capitalist values, consumer culture, the pathologization of life and the “absence of parents” as key points for children's suffering. In view of this, a critical view of the students was perceived when analyzing the problem in a more comprehensive way and not being restricted only to the interpretation of suffering as a chemical imbalance. In addition, the conceptions give scope for reflection on the influences of the current lifestyle and its need for change, as well as warning about the need for a professional practice that does not conform uncritically with the strength of the market.
