Coles shopper slams supermarket for making her buy 500 BAGS for order

A Coles shopper has been left furious after being forced to pay $75 for 500 bags she will 'never use again' because of the store's strict delivery policy.

The mum said she gets her groceries delivered because it is easier than heading into town town to do the shopping with for young children.

She used to click the 'no bags' option for delivery, so drivers would simply drop off crates of her shopping which she would empty on the spot.

Now the mum, based in Maryborough Queensland, has to spend 15cents on every plastic bag needed for her delivery.

'Wish there was the option for no bags when getting groceries delivered.' she said on the supermarket's Facebook Page.

She took a photo of 500 of the red-spotted bags bundled up together in her living room and said she gets '15 every time' her groceries are delivered.

Coles have since revealed they wish to become the country's most sustainable supermarket and have red-cycling options for the bags which are made from 80percent recycled plastic.

'Our ambition is to become Australia's most sustainable supermarket and our Together to Zero strategy sets out ways in which we will reduce our impact on the environment across key sustainability areas including climate change, waste and hunger,' a spokesperson said.

They noted the bags are designed to be reused. 

But the mum insists she never reuses them and said the 'red-cycle' program frustrates her.

She would prefer to see the supermarket offer a buy-back program because customers have to pay for the bags at the checkout.

The bagless delivery option was removed in 2020 in response to the Covid pandemic 

'Why do you make people pay for these bags then take them back for free?,' she fumed.

'We can't say no to them as we are charged for them.

So they just sit here and build up.'

In the post, which has since been deleted, she also explains that it costs $8 for delivery on top of the cost of the bags.

Coles didn't comment on whether the bagless option would be offered on deliveries moving forward but said it is an option for pengeluaran togel click and collect orders. 

The bagless option was removed in 2020 as a response to the Covid pandemic. 

Since then shoppers have revealed their 'under packed' bags, sharing stories of one vegetable per bag or bags with just two or three light items inside.

Many have complained they are trying to reduce their plastic use - which makes the option 'un-ideal'.
