This is my favorite category when I think about how to market a small business because of the sheer number of creative possibilities. But, you have to be willing to spend a couple bucks. Most importantly, you have to be willing to give away stuff to people for free. Like what?

Usually, if a person is opening a small business, the amount that is initially needed will be affordable enough to come out of pocket or a savings. But, some people need more than that or don't want to cut into their savings to start their business. If this is the case, you can get the money you need in the form of a loan.

Are you sure you want to sell your small business? How much do you want to sell? Who have you decided to sell to? These are questions you must put to rest before putting up your business for sale. If you don't find the answers to the questions above ahead of time, you are only avoiding a stumbling block that will get back at you in the heat of the process.

And because we're not exactly one for softening the blows of the business world, here are some of the harsh truths of the small business world, presented in all of their ugly glory. The time for tickle fights and business for sale kitten fuzz are over. It's time to face these things head on to save some disappointment and frustration in the long run.

A small business owner must be approached only from a mindset of help and benefit. You are there to help him. You are there to benefit him. You can help increase his sales. You can get more people to notice his business. You have to truly believe you will help him or you shouldn't be talking to him.

Spilling the beans may also earn you some unnecessary competition, unsolicited publicity and media misinterpretation. Or worst still, you might end up with several lawsuits dangling on your neck. So once again I repeat, never let the cat out of the bag until the deal is sealed.

If a small business will advertise the old fashioned way in the newspapers, directories, with fliers and posters, brochures and with business cards. They can expect a flow of customers over a short period of time. But using the internet as a medium for advertising is very different. Because once you post something on the internet, you can keep it there indefinitely. If the content is good, it could stay relevant for many years. Active with comments, reviews, and readers that do not care the content is three years old. A SEO small business strategy should last you much longer than posting an ad in a weekly community paper.

You have one simple phrase you live by. "Raise your standards." When you raise your standards what you are tolerating starts to go away. But, change is not easily done with a change of phrase.
