If you perceive marketing as a dirty business, try thinking of it as the diapers you need to change in order to have the joys of being a parent. But instead of focusing on what you dislike, tie your marketing chores to your vision of a successful business.

For example, some require you to invite 6, 8 or more people in your first level. Others require you to invite only 2. Some will pay you over everything that everyone that joins your network purchases from the company, others will limit your commissions to a certain number of levels deep. Some will pay you a fixed rate while others will change the rate depending on the level. THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY: Not all network marketing companies are created equal. There are some excellent ones, some okay ones, and some down right awful, ugly ones. If you are looking for a network marketing company, you have to do your due diligence and make sure that you find an excellent one. Remember that you are investing in your future.

Each company has their own rules to describe how they pay you, how you accumulate points and how you can trade them for cash or prizes. These rules may allow unused points to "rollover" indefinitely giving you the opportunity to collect on them sooner or later or cancel them out at the start of each period, thereby forcing you to start from scratch.

We don't see ourselves as in the marketing game. The truth is, if you are out there running a business, thinking like a marketer has to become your priority. It's no use having a great service if nobody knows about it, or you.

So rather than looking in the newspaper for what is the hot trend and then jumping on it, I look within myself and see what is knocking at my door to pursue. That may or may not coincide with the newspaper. I will have more fun and more success by following an "inside out" news reporting than and "outside in" reporting.
