ABSTRACT
This article approaches status quo maintenance in Angola’s post-civil war political economy. The main purpose of this work is to apprehend the role played by 'angolanização' in the ruling party’s strategy for holding power under the conjuncture of national reconstruction. Combining approaches from International Political Economy (IPE) (Strange, 1970; 1976; 1988; 1996; Underhill, 2000; 2001; 2003) with Bayart’s (1991; 2009) and Cooper’s (2002) views on the postcolonial state in Africa, this article identifies the co-constitutive character of public and private spheres in Angola. Such co-constitutive character is a byproduct of the ruling party’s strategies for preserving status quo in the post-civil war years.
