This article investigates if the theoretical understanding of the production of the urban space and the contemporaneous moment of metropolization can be configurated as a fundamental methodological key to interpret the current moment of aggravation of the contradictions of the capitalism and to find possibilities to overcoming it. It is exanimated how urban planning in central areas relates to the production of the metropolis by demonstrating the logic behind the articulation among economic, financial, urban and social policies. In conclusion, neoliberals urban planning models are designed aiming capital accumulation and result in the configuration of the metropolis, which are characterized by the social and spatial segregation.Downloads
