Abstract

Based on recent examples, the article focuseson the question of official management onspatial mobility of fi-equent migrants. Itproposes the study of spatial dinamics of smallscaleplacer miners [garimpeiros], examininghistorical roots of the phenomenon in Braziland recognizing two main kinds of spatialmobility ofgarimpeiros. The article concludeswith the need of a more accurate analysis ofthe existing differences among the extremevariety of processes found.
