This paper presents the foundations and partial results of a research project that interfaces with university extension and aims to (re)understand the peripheral urban territory through dialog between theory and community knowledge. From a critical perspective, based on an understanding of the contradictory processes of the production of space between the state, capital and the needs of social reproduction, the research is guided by two references: the right to the city, in its most critical Lefebvrian conception, and Paulo Freire's pedagogy of the oppressed, seeking through dialogical methodologies to decode urban reality in order to build a program of socio-spatial transformations. The partial results show the centrality of the mobilizing role of women who, guided by an understanding of the daily needs of care and reproduction, organize actions and struggles.
