Abstract

This article discusses the imaginary of big cities about urban violence. From this perspective we examine the reconfiguration of spaces in Rio metropolis and how the fear of violence alters human relations. Old neighborhoods emerge while old ones are restructured, creating a new architecture for the city. As the object of study, we surveyed the neighborhood of Barra da Tijuca, a noble area of the western zone of Rio de Janeiro and its closed condominiums.
