Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effectiveness of the mechanisms available to citizens as useful tools for a more effective participation in political life and in the fight against corruption. ln order to do so, relevant data will be analyzed on the profile of the Brazilian in relation to his relationship with the electoral process, as well as with representatives of elected positions, considering the current socio-political situation in Brazil. ln addition, it analyzes the political rights of the Brazilian citizen and exposes the nature and consequences of corruption in the political sphere. Finally, guidelines will be presented that point out how citizens can use appropriate methods to obtain better choices and directions in the exercise of universal suffrage, emphasizing their civic responsibility in a democratic regime.
