The magazine esteems the perspective of the applied human and social sciences, receiving unpublished works in six languages (Portuguese, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish), on any aspects of its themes of interest, including through theoretical discussion, analysis of empirical results or literature reviews.

Authors must strictly follow the rules of the Guidelines and send their manuscripts exclusively via the online platform. Submissions sent by e-mail or any other means will not be accepted.

Peer Review Process

Double-blind peer review process

1 – Enroll as an author at the periodicals platform of Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ).

2 – Once enrolled, manuscripts must be submitted for evaluation exclusively through the electronic system, not by e-mail or other means.

Because of the commitment to originality, the articles sent to BALLOT must not be under consideration for publication in other periodicals.

3 – The pertinence of the theme and rigor of the text will be judged in advance by the editors.

4 – After passing through these filters, the manuscripts (without information on the authors) will be sent for analysis by two ad hoc referees, chosen from a group of recognized specialists in the particular area of interest, who will present an opinion on the content, originality and quality of the contributions. Also, neither of the two referees knows the identity of the other one.

4.1 – The term for preparation of the opinions is from 30 to 120 days, after which the two opinions will be sent to the corresponding author, for possible inclusion of suggestions or other adjustments to improve the text.

After adjustments of the text according to the suggestions of the referees, the review process will start again with step 2.

4.2 – Acceptance for publication requires the approval of two referees. If there is divergence in the opinions of the two referees, the manuscript will be sent to a third ad hoc referee, whose opinion will be decisive.

5 – After the double-blind peer review, the manuscript will submitted to a final review for correction of spelling errors and syntax problems.
