In 1929, the philosopher Aron Gurwitsch published his doctoral thesis, which, based on a critique of Edmund Husserl's egological vision in Ideas I, broadened the notion of experiential context (Erlebnisumgebung). Based on the figure-ground relationship of Gestalt theory, Gurwitsch introduces the notion of the thematic field, an intermediate context in relation to the theme and horizon that helps in the constitution of meaning in experience. In the same work, the philosopher presents the contextualization of the margin, which through the internal relations of the states of consciousness guarantees the unity and identity of consciousness, dispensing with the need for a pure ego.
